I have been extremely lucky to have friends as bosses, though I have had only one “real” job my adult life.
Sure, I had dozens of odd jobs such as babysitting, house cleaning, waitressing, and gardening — who hasn’t?
It’s been almost ten years since I had 9-5 hours — a job for almost twenty years! My gratitude towards by boss/friend John is immense — he gave me financial stability (and much more) when I was in survival mode. More to say about this, later . . .
That job of twenty years was in the Design/Build world. Most of my dealings were with people in the trades like carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters, etc. I like to spend time with people who know how to do something (either practical or artistic).
I got to spend a few hours with Thomas from Bay Alarm as he tested the smoke and heat sensors in the commercial building I manage. Thomas has property in Mexico and plans to build a modern designed house (exposed beams). I can be a bit nosy and asked what it would cost, property and building. $40,000!!! (Certainly different then San Francisco!)
