THE KONMARI METHOD®

The KonMari Method® is a unique and holistic organizational approach developed by Japanese tidying expert Marie Kondo. In her best-selling book "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" she explains how people can declutter their homes and create spaces that spark joy and promote a sense of well-being. The KonMari Method® is based on several key principles: tidying by category, sparking joy, gratitude, visualization, discarding first, folding and storage techniques, and finally, creating a Power Spot. This transformation has worked for thousands of people, and it will for you too.

Key Principals

  • TIDYING BY CATEGORY

Tidying by category is a distinctive aspect of the KonMari Method®. It’s a systematic and effective approach to decluttering and encourages you to gather all items of a similar type in one place. This gives a comprehensive view of all your belongings, streamlining the decision-making process. It also allows you to assess your emotional connection to each item.

Tidying by category prevents oversight, ensures a thorough decluttering process, and establishes a lasting impact on your living space, fostering a more organized and intentional lifestyle.

  • SPARKING JOY

The KonMari Method® is all about sparking joy. Marie Kondo's method injects life into decluttering, challenging you to hold each item and ask, "Does this thing light up my world?"

It's not your average tidy-up; it's a joyous exploration of every possession. No room for dead weight or joyless vibes—this method is about curating a space that's a symphony of bliss. No more settling for 'meh.' It's a joyful revolution, sparking a vibe that lingers long after the decluttering dust settles.

  • GRATITUDE

Gratitude is a pinnacle of the KonMari Method®. Appreciating each item for its role in your life, allows you to recognize its value and say goodbye gracefully. It's not just about tossing or keeping; but saying goodbye to the old you to make room for the new you.

It's not just about what stays or goes; it's about recognizing the value in the everyday. This method sparks a gratitude revolution, leaving you surrounded by items that carry a meaningful, appreciated presence in your life.

  • VISUALISATION

Visualization is a powerful tool that Marie Kondo utilizes to get you excited for your future home and you. Encouraging you to envision your ideal space forces self-reflection and realizing what you want for yourself followed by action to make it a reality.

It's not just about organizing; it's creating a home that's a living, breathing manifestation of your aspirations.

  • DISCARDING FIRST, ORGANIZING SECOND

The KonMari Method's® emphasis on discarding before organizing stems from the belief that reducing clutter is paramount for effective tidying. Discarding first fosters a mindful and intentional decision-making process, preventing overwhelm. This also creates physical and mental space, and minimizes the risk of rebound clutter.

The KonMari Method® encourages a one-time, comprehensive tidying event, where the act of discarding serves as the foundation for a transformative and lasting change in one's living environment.

  • STORAGE & FOLDING TECHNIQUES

Storage and folding techniques play a pivotal role as the final steps in the tidying process and can make or break lasting results. Storage and folding techniques should allow you to maintain all the work that you did to tidy your home.

Folding techniques, notably for clothes, involve compact and upright folding, allowing items to be easily identified and accessed.

Efficient storage, particularly vertical organization, not only maximizes space but also promotes a sense of order.

Thoughtful storage solutions and specialized folding methods will help you maintain a clutter-free environment and instill lasting organizational habits.

  • POWER SPOT

A Power Spot is a unique idea from the KonMari Method®, based off of “spiritual spots” or shrines common in Japanese culture.

Your Power Spot should be a personal space for you to call your own, filled with things that bring you joy like flowers, crystals, or art. Here you can recharge, meditate, connect with yourself, and more.

It is important to make this spot intentional and to maintain it with regular cleaning and tidying to keep the strong energy.
